Our hand made VICTORIAN MOURNING CHAIN is crafted from braided Rayon cord reminiscent of the braided hair chains of the Victorian era. Developed in the late 1800s, Rayon was the first synthetic thread and was extremely strong. It was originally used extensively for cord and rope. There was a story told in the old west about a gunfighter that, with every opponent he dispatched, would add a small bell to his watch chain. Figuring he was invincible, for he had nine bells on his chain, he was prepared to add the tenth when something totally unexpected happened... he lost. Never did get the tenth bell.
